Geese aplenty

Took a drive to Huntley Meadows today. It’s one of the great birding locations in Northern Virginia and only about a 30 minute drive for me, which are two good reasons I spend a lot of time there, and always with a camera. The wetlands were frozen over and besides a handful of mallards that were hunkered down on the ice, the place was temporary home to a couple hundred Canada Geese. In the woods surrounding the wetlands, there were a fairly large number of flickers in the trees and some Red Bellied and Downy woodpeckers along with the usual cardinals, mockingbirds, and sparrows. I carried my 200-400mm lens in with me but never put it on the camera. Instead I spent my time there using a 24-70mm lens taking shots of the landscape (and some flying geese).
